Dr. Jean Decety
Jean Decety (Ph.D. in Neurobiology, University Claude Bernard, France) is Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of Chicago and the College. Dr. Decety is the director of the Brain Research Imaging Center at the University of Chicago Medical Center, the head of the Social Cognitive Neuroscience Lab, and director of the Child NeuroSuite. He recently edited the Oxford Handbook of Social Neuroscience (2011), Empathy from Bench to Bedside (2012), and The Moral Brain: A Multidisciplinary Perspective (2015), both at the MIT Press.
Dr. Jason M. Cowell
Jason (Ph.D. in Developmental Science, University of Minnesota) studies the development of moral cognition, theory of mind, empathy, and pro-social behavior. Jason utilizes high-density EEG and eye-tracking to study the differences and changes in brain activity during development and across cultures.
After graduating from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and History, Anjali joined the Child Neurosuite as a lab manager. She is currently involved in several projects studying the development of fairness and empathy in children, as well as adolescents.
Kim (B.A. in Psychology, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee) studies the development of morality and empathic concern across the lifespan using high-density EEG fMRI, and eye-tracking. She is particularly interested in the roles of cognition and emotion in social behavior.
Karen received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Chicago. She examines the development of empathy, moral cognition and caring for others in infants and young children. Karen also studies clinical empathy in medical students by combining genetic analyses with emotion sensitivity.
Keith is a doctoral student in Integrative Neuroscience. He received a B.S. in Human Development at Cornell University. Keith uses functional MRI, diffusion tensor imaging, and high-density EEG to study ways in which the brain supports moral cognition in both children and adults.
Elisabeth is a third year undergraduate at the University of Chicago, majoring in Comparative Human Development and Biology. She studies the neural mechanisms involved in developing social evaluation, prosociality, and fairness.
Xanthe Gallate is a current third year at the University of Chicago, majoring in Psychology. At the Child Neurosuite, she studies the development of moral reasoning, generosity, and distributive justice in using behavioral economics games, high density EEG and eye-tracking.
Megan is a third year undergraduate at the University of Chicago, pursuing a degree in the Biological Sciences and Spanish. At the Child NeuroSuite, she helps in the collection of data that studies the correlation between neural differentiation and prosocial versus antisocial actions.
Adrienne is a fourth-year undergraduate at the University of Chicago, majoring in Psychology. She studies the development of empathy, altruism, and moral decision-making.
Dagny is a second-year undergraduate at the University of Chicago, majoring in Psychology. At the Child NeuroSuite, she studies prosocial behavior and empathy in children using EEG.
Joey is a second year undergraduate at the University of Chicago, majoring in Psychology and Comparative Human Development. At the Child NeuroSuite, she studies the neural mechanisms involved in the development of empathy, fairness and moral reasoning through the use of behavioral games and high-density EEG.
